Automated welding machine:

Many welding jobs are handled manually. There are also many welds that can be handled quite adequately by an automated welding machine. In particular in welding pipes, an orbital welder is needed to large pipes in many industrial applications for the precision to avoid springing a potentially hazardous leak.

2 kinds of situation:

  • Semi-automatic welding: the machine is pre-programmed but the parts are actually loaded onto welding bench by an operator who arranges them and then switches on the welding machine until the weld has been completed.
  • Fully automatic welding: the operator is just an observer to make sure the machines are running properly. In this case, the work pieces are moved by other machines and this process is found mostly in very large operations.

Advantages of Automated welding machine:

  • Faster than skillful human welders, roughly 8 times.
  • High quality weld, totally uniform
  • Efficient
  • Economic : do not be paid, no welding scrap generated by a tired welder

Disadvantages of Automated welding machine:

  • Lower initial expenditure
  • Machine takes a long time to be implemented
  • Manual welding is more flexible
  • Maintenance
